Review: Sentinels of the Multiverse Wrath of the Cosmos

This is what happens, when you deal with everything dangerous your planet can offer. All the villagers are behind the grids and it seems, that peace will finally prevail. But then something happens, that would not even come to you in the darkest of your dreams – the universe is plotting against you! It will turn its anger into the shape of several ambassadors, who have the task of erasing your planet from the space of the galaxy. What did you do?

Perhaps, it is just that the human planet has shifted the corners and others are afraid of their power. Fortunately, Badell, Rebottaro and Bender designers (slash heroes) are here to save us. They have created new expansion with the title for their successful card game. This new one is wearing badge with year and it is one of the most recent expansions of this game. It was published by as well as all other boxes.

On the lid, we find a hint of not only the heroes, but also their new opponents. And inside the box is a pile of new cards, that belong to different separate decks – there are two heroes and their four nemesises. And there are also new environments, that bring players to foreign planets and their metropolises.

However, this new expansion is not just the number. It demonstrates interesting new ideas, that rank it very high. And they come on both sides. First we’ll talk about the hero Sky-Scraper, a woman with an unseen resizing capability. As a result of played cards, she can change her size, but also character card and, of course, the ability. This really brings interesting twist to the game from hero point of view and player, who choose her, really enjoys the role of this hero.

But interesting is also Captain Cosmic character, who comes with constructs. His forces can create objects he uses to attack or helps his teammates. The team effect here is very strong and means, that both new heroes are great and you will really like them.

That does not mean, that the viewers should not want be on the opposite side of the curtain. Warriors in the ranks of bad guys also bring heavy weapons. The most striking is Kaargra Warfang, which has two decks. And while one is lying in a traditional place between players, and each wheel provides players with some unpleasant surprises, the second pile lies in the middle with other two cards – the colossus and the audience. Both decks respond to each other and give players a lot of tricks.

And all this in a truly unique way, which is unparalleled in this game. You might be worried, that this mechanic will be too heavy to evaluate cards and slowing the game down. Here, fear is partly filled, because the control of this villain is quite complex. On the other hand, its uniqueness of the gladiatorial arena is so distinctive, that many players are willing to bite it.

But even the other villains are not left behind. Everyone brings something, whether Progeny with his toxic attacks and army of scions or Infinitor with his attack on the hero’s psyche. The last in line is the Deadline, which constantly manipulates player decks. All the characters of the evil are interesting and bring their slightly different contribution to the game making it more variable again.

Wrath of the Cosmos is an excellent expansion, that not only adds more. It brings new ideas, which should be appreciated. With such a game with several existing expansions, it’s hard to keep up with the bar, and designers have stepped out of their shadows with this one definitely. Along with Shattered Timelines, it is definitely the most exciting expansion, that definitely has the right to exist in the Sentinels of the Multiverse galaxy.

Review: Sentinels of the Multiverse Wrath of the Cosmos
Final word
Sentinels of the Multiverse: Wrath of the Cosmos is a box, that brings a new chance for the heroes to show their qualities. And no matter if you use great new or some of your favorites from older boxes, the fight with the incoming bad guys will again be interesting. The new mechanism of the Gladiator Arena, which has its own second deck, will bring great experiences. At the same time, it gets quite complicated, which can discourage some players. Overall, however, Wrath of the Cosmos may be the best addition to the world of Sentinels yet.
