Review: Ninja All-Stars – expansions with new clans

They always told me, that I am not worth to be a true ninja. But when they started to need reinforcements for the war, they suddenly remembered. Clan with clan was waging war and new group emerged every day. And all they wanted was share of the glory. But victory is still only for one, and it does not matter how many swords and lives they put on altar of victory.

And because we really liked the basic game, we tried and test even some of those small boxed expansions. Specifically, we received boxes with Clan and Clan and one bonus character for Inu Clan in a blister. The whole play is made by companies and . Game as a whole was created by , and . New boxes are distributed by company .

Boxes are small and brings a heap of new parts for their dimensions. Each contains their own set of miniatures. Specialty of these expansion packs are big characters, that occupy more spaces on the map. Therefore, they are clumsier, but much more stronger, than the basic ones. This is reflected in the statistics on a card – there is only one common for the whole clan and special skills and then another card for hero and leader. Altogether, there is always fourteen characters, two of them large and one hero.

Game is about uncompromising fighting. Players move along a board, that is designed around nontraditional polka dots (instead of traditional boxes), hiding their characters from eyes of passers-by and constantly attack each other with dice. Each character has its own unique characteristics, that determines his speed, attack, defense (= number of dice) and other options. After a stipulated number of rounds, players compare earned points gained for different tasks and choose the one victorious.

Game is purely about fight and that’s, why all players will certainly appreciate new units. They are in themselves sufficient enrichment. That’s because it also greatly increases the versatility and overall impression of the game. In addition, each box contains some new special skill, such as a clan Ijin supports troops nearby and heroine Bomechan can attack multiple opponents simultaneously. The box also comes with new keywords, so there is always something new to discover.

But we have also mentioned one single figure. Small extension is unyielding in sealed packaging, that you will have to cut mercilessly through. But you have to be careful, because inside is not just one miniature, but also corresponding card, which is not visible from the outside. And this little subtle cub of ours has its own specific skill. Nothing else, just a miniature to enhance your team.

Miniatures are again detailed and very well made. There is nothing to criticize about processing as whole, and if the players are able to paint their miniatures, they will be facing a really beautiful fighter game. At then, nothing else is more apropriate, than to let swords speak. But the muscles (even the brain ones) do not play such a role. Its mostly lucky gambling!

Finally, we are not only evaluating these two clan boxes, but our impressions most likely can be generalized to any expansion packs for Ninja All-Stars. If you enjoy this game, then a new box delivers beautiful enrichment to playability, versatility and even some small new additions. But the „small“ word it the most important one. Why? Nothing changes on the gameplay. And if you are still only thinking about getting Ninja All-Stars and you like the game full of samurai, then you will not regret its purchase. Best even with some of these extra clans to top things up a bit.

Review: Ninja All-Stars – expansions with new clans
Final word
Expansions for Ninja All-Stars are adding more of everything, that is so good about this game. Miniatures, cards, skills and fun. The gameplay itself does not change from the original box, but it does not matter, because original already works well. Especially, if you want to sit around the table and need some of the rumble in your game. Then, these expansions are all you need. Ninja All-Stars is a game, that does not need them to be fun, but they add variability, which is nice.
