Review: Drago-Tuku – get back to the castle!

are everywhere! Our island has always been on their flight path, but thanks to careful fortifications and a large castle, we were always safe from their hungry mouths. But one unsuccessful spell of our wizard is all it takes and everything is different now. Stones of the castle are scattered throughout the island and people have nowhere to hide. That’s why we are sounding our alarm for the first time in ages: Dragons are everywhere!

And there is also plenty of them inside box called . That’s name of the game created by and published by , which comes from Vilnius, Lithuania. The game is no longer any novelty, because it came out in . But we still got a sample with additional games from Logis, such Erzähl doch mal or Hopp und Hui.

This box is not anywhere near small shape, but just the opposite: it impresses with its elongated shape. On its cover, we see a castle still standing and a dragon flying nearby. Inside awaits bilingual rulesbook (English and German) and game board folded in half with boxes arranged in a circle and outlined construction site – place, where castle was standing. But it is not there anymore.

Players can find it on the bottom of the box exploded to cardboard pieces instead. There are together nine pieces ranging from the bridge to the watchtower. Another five pieces of thick cardboard are representing dragons and there are also wooden components – four pieces for the players and one dice.

At the beginning of the game, players spread castle tiles to nine yellow spaces on the road. Dragons will be embarking on hunt for people from their island in the upper right corner, where they are currently grouped on their five starting boxes. Players take each one figure and put them all into a clearing, where castle was just few minutes ago. This is their starting position.

Players in their turn always only roll the dice and move their pawn clockwise. If they manage to stop on the field with castle parts, they can pick it up (but may carry only one piece) and try to bring it safely to building site. When a player has it, there is no way to lose it, but the journey can be long. Once a player with a piece completes his round, he may immediately build it into place.

But besides the numbers, there are also two symbols on the dice. First is the icon of the dragon. And if a player rolls it, he will not move his hero, but instead must fly forward with one of the hungry monsters. Dragons are coming to the circuit gradually and take up five orange squares, not moving anymore. Only one of them is always flying forward and only, when he occupies the farthest orange spot, next one may start his journey from the island.

As a result, in few rounds, several dragons will be standing in the way of heroes and will look out for easy human prey. Fortunately, builders are experienced and well trained. When they stop on a square with dragon, they run to hide in the forest. Avoiding the watchful dragon is not so simple. To do this, get out of the woods and walk around dragon safely, hero needs to roll a sun.

But he is not required to succeed by himself. Players can help each other, to protect their successful construction of their joint project. Heroes carries one part of the castle after another and try to build it, before all dragon arrive on orange squares. If they make it in time, the island is once again safe. But if by any chance, dragons are faster, they all end up in the dragon’s stomach.

Drago-Tuku is a member of endangered group of cooperative games for children. Age destination is set on five years and for ease of gaming content, which usually involves only about rolling the dice, it is absolutely appropriate value.

Avoiding dragons is simply fun, but at the same time exciting task, because returning from the forest is not so simple. While other can help you, they must choose every time, whether it is better to move their own figure (sun also functions as a joker with a possible shift up to five fields) or exit the forest.

Although the game is random, it at the same time gives all participants the opportunity to cooperate. Because of the influence of luck, it is also possible to work on the reconstruction of the castle with parents. It works in all available numbers (two to four) and does not last very long neither. The game will fit easily into some fifteen minutes, which is great.

Processing is truly perfect. Graphics is beautiful and you can see, that nobody has spared any coins even on cardboard based on its thickness. At first glance, you will know, that it is a game for children and you will not doubt even during the game.

Drago-Tuku is a sample of children game, where there is nothing to criticize. It is beautiful, simple, and it offers interesting content. We really like it and it is a pleasure to build the castle again and again. Offer of cooperative games for kids is limited, as we have already indicated and the more will you appreciate Drago-Tuku. We must recommend it at all times.
